For at least a century, Corinth was the largest and most prosperous city in mainland Greece and was the capital of the Roman province of Achaia. It was the home of a major athletic event called the Isthmian games, second only to the Olympics. Corinth was a city known for its financial wealth, entertainment, education, diversity, and, unfortunately, sexual immorality. The name Corinth was synonymous with moral depravity. “Live like a Corinthian” was a derogatory term about the drunkenness and sexual debauchery the Corinthians were known for.
